Offers Something For Everyone
Whether you’re interested in sightseeing, shopping, or soaking up the sun, Watertown offers something for everyone.
Watertown, which has a population of nearly 30,000, is located approximately 70 miles north of Syracuse and 30 miles south of Canada. The region is located close to other hot spots in the Thousand Islands region, but still has its own distinct identity.
Known as the retail hub of the region, Watertown is home to both large chain stores and small boutiques. Historically, the town’s early settlers envisioned the area to be industrious because of its prime location along the Black River. Visitors can get a flair for the history as they visit the public square that was developed nearly 200 years ago.
Historic Thompson Park is another great way to soak up the feeling of the old town charm while enjoying a relaxing picnic, a trip to the zoo, or by hitting a few holes of golf.
More adventurous souls may enjoy a rafting, canoeing, or kayaking trip down the Black River. Others may jump in with both feet for a swim or scuba diving on a hot summer day.
By contrast, winter visitors will love the powder from the “lake effect” snow. The region is a favorite destination for snowmobiling, skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, skating, and hunting.
